Favourite Mobile Apps as voted for by Prototype Employees

We took some time out from creating apps to tell you some of our favourite apps around at the moment. We haven't based this on anything but our own personal enjoyment of these apps in the hope that you will find an app you equally enjoy. HERE City Lens (recommended by Pablo)

This awesome app helps you know what is around you so if you need a coffee, HERE can tell you the coffee shops in your area. All you have to do is hold up your phone like you are taking a picture and this app will relay all the best shops, restaurants and points of interest right onto your phone's display. Each item comes with additional information on hours, reviews and so on. You can also save things for later if you see something you like but don't have time to visit.

HERE Drive (recommended by Pablo)

This app gives you guided navigation without needing a Wi-Fi connection. All you have to do is download the map for your country and this app will get you where you need to go with no Internet. You can also save settings such as My Commute and the app will formulate the best routes for you to take.

Pulse (recommended by Haneen)

Pulse offers one of the better news reading apps out on the market. The developers aimed to revolutionise the mobile news reading experience and they must've done something right as the app now has 30 million users and a mere million new members join every month. You can save stories you like the look off until later, and choose from a wide range of sources, tailoring your news to suit you.

Vine (recommended by Haneen)

Vine is a video sharing app that allows you to upload video captures of separate images for up to 6 seconds of time. Each video then plays in a continuous loop and can be viewed either on the apps feed or on Twitter. Due to the short time frame, users get very creative with their video captures and sequencing. If you are into cameras and creativity you will love Vine.

8tracks (recommended by Haneen)

You know when you feel like listening to a certain genre of music but don't have the patience for either creating your own playlist or for coping with adverts on YouTube? Well, this app is here for you. 8tracks allows users to create playlists based on genres and allows other users to listen to these playlists for free. So if you are in the mood for some electronic party music, then you can select these two categories and hundreds of playlists will pop up for your listening pleasure. Awesome.

FBReader (recommended by Anton)

FB reader is a multi-platform e-book reader where users can peruse a large set of e-books for free and download both free e-books or books with a fee. You can personalise your reading experience with colours, fonts, page turning animations and so on. These small enhancements make your reading time fun and compatible to your tastes.

VKontakte (recommended by Anton)

This is a social networking app (for VK.com) that supports newsfeeds, location sharing, messaging, group chats, music, profiles, photos, contacts and widgets. It is very popular amongst the Russians and currently has over 75, 604, 275 members in Russia alone. This app is crushing the drams of Zuckerberg to take on Russia with Facebook. They must be doing something right!

Gismeteo (recommended by Artem)

This weather application offers a better user experience than other weather apps available. It gives you the current weather for all over the world with temperature, wind, air pressure and so on. It gives the weather forecast for the next 7 days and a detailed forecast for 48 hours. You can save your favourite places and you can personalise your favourite places with a photo.

CatLog (recommended by Artem)

Catlog is a logging device that helps you to debug apps, find error stacktraces and see what your phone is generally saying behind your back. You can colour code tag names, do real-time searches, switch to recording mode, save and open from SD card, send logs as email or attachment, search auto suggestions and select part of logs.

Dropbox (recommended by Artem)

If you are in the business of sharing big files then you need a Dropbox account. Dropbox allows you to share and store files, folders, pictures, videos and everything else on your computer and your phone without using any storage space. The cloud based app updates information from your phone regularly so you don't have to worry about a back up. This app will fast become your best friend.
