One way is to announce your content and ask people to sign-up for early access. You technically promote your content before you have created it. Many authors use this method to test book ideas, and not only to test but to build an audience before the book is ready.
If no-one shows interest, you can kill the idea before producing it. Keep in mind this method works best if you have an existing audience or a steady flow of traffic to promote your content idea.
Another way to test your content idea is to ask people from your target audience if they want to have the content you propose. You have to be smart about how you ask the question. People may be inclined to respond with what you want to hear rather than what they think.
Avoid asking people that are not part of your target audience, as they won't give you the right feedback.

Finally, you can observe your target audience online. What are they talking about on social media, what content do they post, what content do they like?
