This is the first in our new series of blogs created by the Prototype Team. This week's blog is from Shahid, our Multimedia Designer, who gives you his Top 5 Design Tips. Design has some crucial elements that are key to making your website and/or mobile app development a success. Shahid shares his pearls of design wisdom with us below.
Guide user's attention by setting a focal point on the page. You can create a focal point by setting a single section on the page apart with the help of proper placement, contrast and colours. Whatever section is used as a focal point should align with the website goals and priorities, directing users in the direction you want them to go.
No matter how nicely a page is laid out, it's the images that will set your website apart from the other websites. Everyone loves Apple's website because of their amazing photography. With the right styling and lighting, you can accomplish great things through photography that can speak volumes in seconds - exactly what you want with a website buried in the World Wide Web.
Great copy is very important. It's one of the most essential parts of web design that can make or break interaction with your site. At the end of the day it's the copy that gets conveyed with the help of the design. Use a friendly tone that talks backs to the user and make sure it comes from the heart. You want your users to warm to your design and your words; engage with them on a level that they will understand.
Typography is an essential part of any design. Choosing an enjoyable, legible font-type that blends well with the logo and illustrations on your website could help set a unique style and make the user stay longer on the page. Avoid over used fonts that may have connotations to other brands. Be as unique as possible as well as having a comprehensible style.
Videos can add a lot to your website. We have to face up to the fact that no one has time to read an entire page so it's always easier to watch a video instead. It could be a fun video of your entire team doing something crazy, or a video shot in an artistic way that showcases your team and what you do. If done properly videos can make the user stay longer on the page and help boost your social media ratings. Running regular videos weekly can also give users a reason to come back to your site. So long as your videos are on point with content, you could build a valuable following.
