Shop and Ship App

Shop and Ship, an online shipping delivery service from Aramex, needed a new app designed and developed for Windows 8.

‍Shop and Ship (SnS) enables customers to shop online from stores in the US, the UK and China. The company provides a local shipping address then forwards the delivery to the customer.

The Challenge

SnS apps allow users to track shipments and access online services for ‘an enhanced Shop and Ship experience.’ We had previously developed the SnS Windows Phone and Android apps but we had to rethink the overall design for the Windows 8 app, to take into consideration more screen real estate and different screen orientations.

Because Windows 8 hadn’t yet been released we were working with early preview versions of the new operating system, and beta stage software development kits.

The Concept

The Design

We designed the app in line with SnS brand guidelines but also followed the Windows 8 Metro (design language) guides as closely as possible, so the app would look and feel like part of the Windows 8 system.

We started the design process by creating wireframes and mapping out the app flow. Once the wireframes were approved by the client we translated the design into XAML UI, built the different views for the app, and developed the functionality, including connectivity to web services.

How it works

The SnS app enables customers to sign in to the app dashboard for detailed information on tracked shipments (status, location and history), personal SnS addresses, Aramex office locations and direct links to web services.

The app can be pinned to the new Windows 8 Start screen where users can view live updates of all their shipments.

The application allows users to receive push notifications and get notified instantly when the status of a shipment is changed.

Users may also search address information and a map for office locations.

The Result

The app successfully supports the SnS online tracking system, allowing customers to monitor packages at every stage.

SnS customers around the world using Windows 8 can track their shipments from their Start screens and the Windows 8 presence helps to ensure SnS can deliver on the promise, ‘We’re all about making it simple.’
